Dec 2019 News

6th and 7th December 2019
Christmas Wreath Workshop

This year we held two christmas wreath workshops compared to the previous year where we held just the one. Both sessions were a huge success with 22 people attending across the 2 days. You don’t have to be creative or artistic to take part and its an activity for all ages. On Saturday afternoon we had a mother and daughter working together to create a piece of christmas magic for their home. Some of our wreath makers chose to create a christmas table centre piece or a candle display for their window.

Christmas Wreath Workshop

What a fantastic event to get your christmas started especially when theres mulled wine and mince pies to ease you into christmas festivities.
We have already secured dates for our christmas wreath workshops for 2020, we have Friday 4th december at 6pm or Saturday 5th december at 11:30am. If you would like to know more please speak to Shelley or drop us a message on our facebook page UCSC brightlingsea rowing club!

Winter Series Round 4 – Maldon 15th December 2019

This was the only round of the winter series in december and we made sure it was a good one! It also saw the first time trial of the series take place, which for some was their strongest race. Ladies were up first starting 11th on the grid racing against Fly from Stone. The Violette Ladies started well not quite on the line but still a strong start from them. Had a good rhythm from the start and finishing strong ahead of their pairing Fly. Overall the Violette ladies finished 10th with a time of 15 minutes and 26 seconds.
It was a quick turn around for the mens race they were 4th pairing to go in their round. Another strong start from the lads who were racing against Tyrant from Rowhedge. This wasnt going to be an easy dual as both Rowhedge boats are strong teams. Both boats are pretty equal heading down to the first turn but violette are just ahead. Violette are now pushing hard for home and trying to open up a lead. They cross the line 11 seconds ahead of Tyrant for a hard fought race. The Violette mens team finished 5th overall in a time of 12 minutes 20 seconds.
Now it’s the mixed teams turn to try to build on their previous results. Can they hold their position at the top of the table? A lot of pressure on todays race. Violette mixed start 5th in their time trial which means they were the 3rd pairing to go. They were paired against the home team Record Reign who knew these waters well. Could be a hard battle in this pairing! Violette mixed rowed hard out of the starting blocks and get an early lead down to the turn where they were first round the mark. They continue to push hard for home and crossed the line first ahead of record reign who were a good boat length or more behind. Overall the Violette mixed finished 2nd in a time of 11 minutes and 59 seconds 1 second ahead of our Brightlingsea rivals coastal.
